“Commodore’s Cup” … start sorting your teams!

It’s almost upon us….the event of the year……the race to end all races……the race that even the upcoming ‘Americas Cup’ can’t compete with. Yes, it’s almost time for the annual MPSC “COMMODORE’S CUP” 😀

Saturday, 27th of May is the date to put in your diary.

This year is a fiendishly clever event that will see your skills both on and off the water be tested.

Racing will take place in clubhouse lake – so everyone can watch and shout encouragement or advise.
We’ll be using the club boats (Bahia, Quest, Q’ba) so no need to use or have your own.
The event will be in a Team racing format (So you need to sort out your top team asap!)
You need no sailing experience in order to take part (In fact, non sailors might even score extra points for your team)
There’s no official charge, but a donation of at least £1 per person on your team would be gratefully received as a donation towards helping us redecorate the clubhouse.

We’ll be able to accommodate up to 9 teams and each boat will be sailed for 1 Hour – but you can change your crew at anytime and as many times as you want during that hour.
The winners will simply be the team that completes the most number of laps…however, bonus laps will be awarded pretty much on the whim of our Commodore, David Crosby.
There are some key ways to earn these bonus laps: Fancy dress and boat decoration, Youngest and Oldest people in your boat, Introducing yourself to club members that you don’t know around the club during the time that you’re not sailing plus, doubtless, many other fun and arbitary reasons basically thought up on the day!
Penalty laps will be deducted for any on or off the water grumpiness and race infringements (or maybe for even being too good)

The idea is to have a lot of fun throughout the whole day, so bring yourselves, a Barbecue, some friends, a tent and a big smile.

Remember, above all, our time at Manor Park should be a lot of fun, both sailing or on the patio so events like this are aiming at being predominantly sociable events to allow everyone to meet, mix and mingle as we head into those long lazy days in the Summer.

What a great way to spend the day and, as it’s a Bank Holiday weekend, why not stay over and do some social sailing/informal racing on the Sunday?

Happy days ….. come and have a go if you think you’re crazy enough 🙂
