Even though we sail all year round at MPSC, the sort-of-official-unofficial start of the sailing season is always seen as being the weekend of ‘The Dinghy Show’ 🙂
After a few months of hibernation – perhaps starting to see signs of Neoprene withdrawal symptoms – sailors from all over the UK (and beyond) make the pilgrimage to Alexandra Palace in early March to catch up with sailing friends, to check out the latest boats and to restock on those absolutely essential bits of kit that we know that we totally have to have in our bags.
The 2014 show takes place on the weekend of 1st & 2nd of March and tickets are now on sale.
What a great christmas present – you can buy online and simply print off your ticket, so no delivery worries!
Adult tickets are £10.50 (£8.50 for RYA members) and – get this – FREE for under 16’s!
The show really is a great day out. It’s predominantly run for the benefit of class associations so sees stands featuring a huge array of boats – all manned by the people that actually sail them rather than salesmen. There are a few trade stands from where to purchase kit such as wetsuits, drysuits etc – a fantastic benefit is the ability to try this stuff on before you buy.
Refreshments are available, there are talks by top sailors and plenty of info and advice to be gathered about sailing or your class.
Alexandra Palace is really easy to get to as well with parking onsite (if you’re quick!). Emma and I have just got our train tickets for £15.50 return (From Lichfield Trent Valley). Aim for Euston, then it’s a couple of tube trips to Wood Green. Go outside the station and either walk straight on and up the hill (about 15mins walk) or go over the road and find the free shuttle bus.
Don’t be tempted to collect/purchase on the door as the queues really do get quite large.
When you do book – whether online or on the phone – you’ll be able to mention Manor Park SC at the time (Drop down box for online purchase, question will be asked via phone) this puts us into a draw for the club to win equipment.
So, March 1st & 2nd 2014.
